GOVERNING BODIES
Sturgeon Kendo Club of Saint Albert, Alberta is a member of the Canadian Kendo Federation (CKF), under the governance of the International Kendo Federation (FIK). Our dojo is listed on the Canadian Kendo Federation website, and our ranks are recognized internationally.
Kendo first appeared in Canada in the early 1900's, with the Yokikan Dojo in Steveston, BC established in 1914. The 1st Canadian National Kendo Tournament was held in 1939. Canada has successfully participated in every World Kendo Championships since their formation in 1970, placing as high as silver and bronze in the Men's and Women's competitions. Sturgeon Kendo Club can be found on the CKF National Dojo Registry.

The International Kendo Federation (FIK) was established in 1970 and it is composed of national federations that exclusively represent their country/region in kendo. At the time of its establishment, there were 17 countries/regions affiliated with the FIK. As of September 2018, 59 countries/regions are FIK affiliates. Its purpose is to propagate and develop kendo and to foster mutual trust and friendship among its affiliates.
